So what is the point of having a burglar alarm!!!!

As you know I am an owl – I go to bed late and often get involved online so end up going to bed really late…..!!!

Well last night at 3.30 the house alarm went off over the road.  As my computer room is upstairs at the front of the house, I looked out straight away to see if I could see a van or anything suspicious.

OK I didn’t have my distance glasses on as I was on the computer but I could see the house and the road pretty clearly even though it was dark although the bushes in the garden next door slightly hampered my vision at ground level.

There was no movement, no van parked outside or even in the part of the driveway that I could see, although I couldn’t see all their front garden because of bushes and I couldn’t see the driveway up the other side of the house.  But no figures hurrying away either.

I kept watching presuming that something had triggered the alarm inside and the owners would turn it off in a minute but no, ten minutes later it was still going.

By now I thought I really should do something about it and as it wasn’t an emergency I rang 101.  The lady on the other end took my details (which seemed more important than what was going on over the road for some reason!) and I told her what I knew.

While I was speaking to her the alarm stopped, although that was probably because it was set to stop after 15 minutes.

Anyway, she told me that the police don’t investigate when house alarms go off - even though it was 3.30 a.m. and it seemed that the owners couldn’t be there or they would have turned it off.

She just told me that if I saw anyone running away or a vehicle drive off to ring “the 9’s”.

Well unless I had night vision binoculars to hand and could tell them the make and registration of the vehicle, then I rather think that would be a waste of time too as by the time they got here the burglars would be well away.

I kept an eye on the house and about 5 minutes after the alarm had stopped, a light came on in a downstairs room which was on for a good five minutes or so and by the time I went to bed ten minutes or so later the light had gone out but the security light round the side was on.  But still no fleeing burglars to be seen, so I can only presume the owners had finally been woken by their alarm.

So…… what I have learned from last night’s episode is that burglar alarms are a complete waste of time and if you are a burglar and you set an alarm off, then just sit tight and carry on with ransacking the house, as the police wont bother you.  Then, by the time you leave, the alarm will have stopped and even on the off-chance that it had woken a neighbour, they will be tucked up back in their beds and be well asleep again by the time you leave.  No worries about turning lights on in the house either to make your job easier, as it is even more likely to make neighbours think that the alarm had woken the owners.

I decided a well-lit outside of the house, possibly nice crunchy gravel, and of course dogs, are much more of a deterrent than a burglar alarm.

Surely life doesn’t have to end this way! My own views on the Liverpool Care Pathway.

It has been a while since my last blog as I have been wanting to post this one but must have changed it a hundred times as I don’t want to antagonise anyone – anti euthanasia, pro the Liverpool Care Pathway etc. or upset anyone who has lost someone on the so-called CARE pathway.

But if I don’t post it soon I will never post it.

There seems to coincidentally be an awful lot about it in the newspapers at the moment too.

But I just feel I need to write this and get it off my chest as I have been agonising over this for nearly 4 years now.

THIS IS ENTIRELY MY OWN OPINION FROM THE EXPERIENCE I HAVE HAD WITH MY OWN MOTHER

If you were marooned on a desert island with no food or water, what would happen – your body would die!

So if you are lying in a hospital bed and you were given no food or water, then what would happen – your body would die!

If you are lying in a hospital bed and you are given a lethal injection, what would happen – yes, you’ve got it – your body would die!

I KNOW WHICH I WOULD PREFER!

The decision is made to end the life of your body at the point they put you on the Liverpool Care Pathway so at that point it is euthanasia – just slow euthanasia.

Due to some very outdated laws and oaths doctors can now put you on a slow death route as they are DOING NO HARM but they are not allowed to give you a lethal injection.

So instead of the nice painless quick ending that we would be kind enough to give our pets, they can only subject the body to die on its own through lack of the vital sustenance it needs to survive.

If we did it to a child, elderly person or even a pet AT HOME we would be charged with neglect. But do it in a hospital or care home and they put the name CARE into a form of euthanasia.

I am not against the Liverpool Care Pathway as such because it can save a person from living in a state that they would never be happy in again and may save them a long time in pain.

What I am against is not changing the law to enable doctors to sign the papers for a fast instant injection instead of signing the papers to withdraw all nutrition and fluids, when it gets to that point in a person’s life.

SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG HERE in this day and age.

It is a cruel way to end the life of a body.

I will never stop feeling “guilty” as I sat day after day at my own mother’s bedside and looking into her eyes knowing that her body was slowly being put to death, while she was muttering that no-one was feeding her and that she was thirsty.

Don’t get me wrong, she was 92 years old and had not really had much of a life for the last couple of years and she was in hospital because she had had a stroke.

After 3 weeks she could still hardly move and would have absolutely hated to have been in that state for the rest of her days but she was conscious and talking as best she could although it was hard for her to get the words out and sometimes she wasn't making any sense and her hand seemed to be writing what she wanted to say at the same time.  But she did know they were not feeding her and kept telling me, even if she only knew subconsciously.

I had been unable to visit her on the Sunday and when I came in on the Monday they didn’t say anything but when I spoke to the nursing staff they mentioned that her feeding tube had FALLEN OUT on Saturday. I thought they stitched those tubes in!

They said that as no doctors were around over the weekend the tube had not been put back in.  Then they gave me a leaflet on the Liverpool Care Pathway which I guess was supposed to answer most of my questions before I saw the doctor as his time is precious.  They said I could make an appointment to see the doctor the next day if I wanted.

So by the time I could see the doctor and complain / approve their decision 3 days had already passed and her organs were already damaged, probably past the point of no return.

I was told she would not last more than a day or so in her weakened state as she was effectively already into day 3 of the Pathway. She actually lasted 5 more days after that.

I don’t know how awful that felt for her to not be given nutrition and fluids, and more importantly I have no idea how horrible it must have felt for her to have her organs shrivel up and die slowly inside.

But I do know how awful I felt knowing that it was 100% certain that her body was about to die and there was nothing I could do to end it quickly for her.

We don’t do this cruel thing to our pets and we shouldn’t have to do it to our loved ones either. It is cruel to them and it is cruel to us.

The current newspaper articles are about whether people are put on the LCP unnecessarily or without permission from the relatives.

But having been through this, my point is that if it is clear the patient will not get through the illness or will have no quality of life left in their last remaining days, then surely we can save them having to go through this awful process and end it in a more humane way for them. It is not dignified to put them through this ordeal when there is a simple way out.

In circumstances like this it is time to change the law!

Do we eat anything natural any more?

Vegetables are not what they were a couple of decades or so ago.  We now only have neat-shaped fruit and vegetables that have been grown in artificial conditions.

They have to be the right shape and colour.  They are treated and sprayed so that they can travel thousands of miles to get to our shops and still be in good condition.  They are grown in artificial environments so that we can eat every type of fruit and vegetable throughout the year instead of just when that item is in season.

Even "organic" ones are contaminated in some way by the chemicals in the wind, rain and underground water supplies, even if they aren't sprayed and fertilised.

We live in a very artificial world.

We have just got an allotment this year but the produce will still not be "natural" or "organic" as such because we have to:

Buy the seeds which have probably been changed in some way.

The land used to be farmland so has probably been treated with numerous chemicals.

The water is from an underground well which all the water from the fields nearby drain into after the farmers have sprayed their crops.

The chemical spray from the nearby fields probably blows over in the wind and rain.

If we did use any fertiliser, even from the nearby horses instead of in fertiliser bags, we don't know what they have been eating in their feed.

We now have chickens so our eggs are as free range as they can be but we still have to buy layers mash to feed them on so don't really know how they treat that.

We will never be able to get back to natural truly organic food as we have done too much damage to our soil and water but I wonder how far they will go in producing perfectly shaped and coloured fruit and vegetables for us to buy – will they all be identical in the racks in the shops so there is no real choice at all – it’s getting that way now.  And what happens to the ones that don’t conform to that shape and size – they get thrown away or ploughed back into the fields!

One for the Ladies – Really!!! What do they expect?

Why is it that some men seem to think that on social media sites they can pick up women by saying something stupid like “I like you – we get together”?  You know all the stupid in your face comments that someone you have never ever spoken to before say on your posts.

I have forgotten most of the comments but there are so many messages like this!  And for the sake of keeping this blog “clean” I wont even repeat some of the messages.

Don’t get me wrong – I don’t mean ALL men are like this and men from Western countries would know never to act like this, but there is a whole group of men from Eastern countries that seem to think it is the right way to start a conversation with a woman – even in the middle of a thread sometimes.

Do they walk up to women in the street where they live and say the same thing?  If so, do they really expect a good response?  Or do they think we are different and will be overwhelmed by their attention?

Men’s chat-up lines have always been a bit of a joke – “Do you come here often”, “I haven’t seen you here before”, “What’s a nice looking girl like you doing here on your own” etc., but men never used to be quite so direct as the Eastern men are on social media sites.

Do they really expect us ladies to respond and start chatting to them online?  What’s more, what do they expect to achieve from it anyway.  They live half way across the world for heaven’s sake.

Do they think we will pay for them to come over to see us and marry them so they can get out of their country?  Do they think we are any better than their own women?  What is the fascination with trying to chat up women so far away anyway?

Surely they should realise that the softly softly get to know her approach would be the better option as their direct approach is an automatic turn-off and block.

Will You Still Have Books on Your Shelves?

Do you think reference books will be a thing of the past now everything is available online?  I have loads of different reference books – shelves full of medical, healing, tarot, crystal and Reiki books – you name it and I have most types of “New Age” books on my shelves plus lots of books by Mediums.  But if I want to refer to something or check up on something I tend to go first to the computer and look it up on the internet rather than rummage in my bookshelves.  Granted with all the bears taking up residence in front of the books it slows things down a tad but I know where most of my books are and behind which bear.  But by the time you have got the book out, looked it up in the index and found what you are looking for, you could have found it in half the time on the internet.  Not always I grant you, plus sometimes the answers are conflicting so you end up getting the book out anyway.  But whereas years ago you had to buy reference books to learn and to look things up, nowadays it is all at your fingertips online.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Now Kindles have also become popular I should image there will be a lot less people buying other types of books as well.  I haven’t managed to find time to read a book for over a year and yet I used to really like reading so I think also people spend more time online and don’t have the time to sit down with a book.  Some find time for both of course, but I just don’t personally know how they can if they end up joining in on a social media site as well.  I don’t have time for more than one social media site really.  I use them all for jewellery but spend so much time on Google+ that I can hardly keep up with the others yet alone post anything on them.  If I still worked full time and danced most nights I wouldn’t have chance to be on any of the social media sites or have chance to read books.  I can’t read when I go to bed as I just can’t keep my eyes open so I used to read before I went to bed but that just doesn’t ever happen these days.  The only time I can honestly say I have time for reading is when it is a lovely sunny day in the summer and as we don’t get many of those I make sure I sit outside but as I can’t just sit still, I read.  We didn’t get many sunny days this summer so I didn’t even finish reading my monthly magazines that also pile up unread.

My old electric toothbrush has finally given up on me.  I bought a new replacement one early last year as my one seemed to lose the charge so much quicker and I didn’t think it would be long before it finally packed up altogether.  Of course, that guaranteed it a new lease of life because it never got any worse for months until it finally died on me by not recharging at all.  So I was very pleased I had the new one sitting in it’s box ready to use.  I duly charged it up ready to use the following night, put it in my mouth and nearly jumped out of my skin.  It is an Ultrasonic one and it seems so high pitched loud!  My other one was deep and throaty (excuse the pun) in comparison.  I was last to bed and I was sure it was going to wake up my husband, but as we don’t have an en-suite and the bathroom is across the landing, it didn’t disturb him.  What I didn’t realise until the next day is that it sounds a lot worse in your head than it does outside of it.  I think it is a lot better than my old one of the same make so I am happy but still find the noise disconcerting until I get used to it.

Well it’s time for the snippet to trivia:

Lastly today’s chuckle:

A woman customer called the Canon help desk with a problem with her printer.
Tech support: Are you running it under windows?
Customer: 'No, my desk is next to the door, but that is a good point. The man sitting in the cubicle next to me is under a window, and his printer is working fine.'

It's the Winter Solstice tonight.

It’s the Winter Solstice tonight - well actually at 5.30 a.m. in the morning so this is officially the shortest day – thank goodness for that as it is so dull and depressing when we get such short daylight hours especially when the weather is not bright, as we have to put the lights on even earlier in the day.  So many people these days suffer from SAD when they can’t cope with the lack of daylight.  For people who work in places that have artificial lights on all day some people only see a very short span of daylight on their way to work or in their lunch break.

------------oOOo-(_)-oOOo------------

The Winter Solstice goes by unnoticed these days by the majority of people but is celebrated by the more “earthly spiritual” religions and groups.  Yule, as it is also known, is widely celebrated by Pagans, Druids, Celts etc. and is a significant festival in the Wiccan calendar.  Many other countries also celebrate the Winter Solstice.  It is a celebration of the sun being reborn.  Many travel to monumental sites like Stonehenge to celebrate, where the sun lines up through the stones on the Summer and Winter Solstices.

I have now received all 3 of the Tarot decks and the Oracle deck I ordered and I am really pleased with all of them.  The Crystal Visions Tarot has to be my favourite – the bright colours really draw the eye and are dramatic.  The Cat’s Eye Tarot is also a really interesting deck.  The other one I bought is the Joie de Vivre Tarot with very whimsical pictures.  The Oracle Deck is Wonderland Wisdom which are cards with fairies on.  I will go into a little more detail on these lovely Tarot decks another time.  I have also been told by Baba Store that the 3rd edition of the Baroque Bohemian Cats Tarot Decks are on their way to me too so I look forward to receiving them.

My trivia snippet for you:

Venus is the only planet that rotates clockwise.
(Since Venus is normally associated with women, what does this tell you!)
(That women are going the 'right' direction...?)

Lastly a little chuckle for you:

These were real questions and answers in court:

Q: "So the date of conception (of the baby) was August 8th?"
A: "Yes."
Q: "And what were you doing at that time?"

Q: "She had three children, right?"
A: "Yes."
Q: "How many were boys?"
A: "None."
Q: "Were there any girls?"

Q: "You say the stairs went down to the basement?"
A: "Yes."
Q: "And these stairs, did they go up also?"

Q: "Mr. Slatery, you went on a rather elaborate honeymoon, didn't you?
A: "I went to Europe, sir."
Q: "And you took your new wife?"

Q: "How was your first marriage terminated?"
A: "By death."
Q: "And by whose death was it terminated?"

Q: "Can you describe the individual?"
A: "He was about medium height and had a beard."
Q: "Was this a male or female?"

Why don’t children want toys for Christmas any more?

When did it all change?  Why do children now shun toys in favour of computer games and dvd’s?  Apparently they are now too old for toys by their 7th birthday!!! Er – shouldn’t that be at the peak of their playing with toys age when they are now able to handle the lego bricks etc. with dexterity and use their imagination to make things with meccano, play games with cars and dolls etc.???  When did children become teenagers at 7 years old?  They used to reach double figures in their age before they were too old for toys.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I know times have changed a lot and children no longer seem to play outdoor games like skipping, ball games, chasing etc. because they can’t play out in the street any more or go to the park on their own but we do still have back gardens in this more modern society so why don’t they ever want to play in the garden any more?  Don’t get me wrong – they do sometimes play in the back garden but given the choice they would probably be happier watching television or playing computer games.  Also the age that they are happy in the garden seems to have dropped to about five or six years old.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Not only don’t they seem to play in the gardens, but they don’t seem to want to play with actual toys any more.  Any toys that they do want are only played with for a very short time before being ignored for the pull of the video games and dvd’s.  Some toys are classed as 6+ because they are too intricate and complicated for younger children so I suppose these types of construction toys will just die out completely.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Most houses with families seem to have the television on from the moment they get up in the morning until they go to bed at night and it is only turned off when the last person leaves the house or goes to bed.  Well it is obviously not just houses with children as often the television is constantly on in any house but the most disturbing thing is that it has become “the norm” to have the television on in the background permanently whether anyone is watching it or not.  The children get distracted from any other play just because it is on.  But in most cases they will watch their favourite dvd or play a computer game many times a day rather than indulge in any play with actual toys.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

It is so much easier for parents to just let the children watch television, dvd’s or play computer games than to bother playing with the children themselves or have the children playing noisily with toys.  Plus of course putting a few dvd’s away at the end of the day is a lot easier than clearing up a lot of toys and there are no arguments with the children about putting their toys away.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Most children these days have their own television and dvd player in their bedroom and go to sleep watching a dvd instead of having a bedtime story and lights out.  How do parents know how much sleep little Johnny has if they leave a 2 hour dvd playing?  How do they even know he doesn’t get up and put another one on when it finishes?  More importantly, how do children learn to go to sleep by just closing their eyes and laying there until they fall asleep?  Are they all going to grow up to have to have the television on to be able to go to sleep?

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I know I am sounding like an old grandma now but “it was different in my day” as we used to play outside all the time and play with toys all day if it was wet or it was too late to play outside.  When my own children were young they played in each others gardens and with toys indoors, as the only children’s television programmes on at all were a 15 minute one at lunch time for the pre-school children, then a 15 minute one at tea time for the young ones followed by 30 minutes for the slightly older children and lastly 30 minutes for the older children and that was it.  Oh and there was a Saturday morning programme for the slightly older children.  Computer games were around for my older children but not really that interesting until my youngest was old enough to play them.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Apart from turning the kids into couch potatoes, what are we doing to their minds when they can’t interact and act out scenarios with toys.  Imagination will disappear along with the toys.  Even baby and toddler toys are now all electronic gadgets rather than just building bricks, soft toys, shapes etc. There are very few toy shops left these days as no-one wants toys any more.  Apart from toys for toddlers, will toys disappear for ever – no more pretend toys, building toys?  Will toy cars and dolls become a thing of the past and only be seen in museums?

Here’s today trivia snippet:

Dentists have recommended that a toothbrush be kept at least six (6) feet away from a toilet to avoid airborne particles resulting from the flush.

Followed by today’s chuckle:

UNDERSTANDING WOMEN  (A MAN'S PERSPECTIVE)
I know I'm not going to understand women.
I'll never understand how you can take boiling hot wax, pour it onto your upper thigh, rip the hair out by the root, and still be afraid of a spider.

How Often to Blog – the Leading Question

I have been trying out different ways of blogging and I suppose the only way to find out any form of response is to ask you, my readers.  I know from the amount of readers per post that not all of you are subscribed as such so probably see the notification of my new blog on one of the media sites.  So maybe you could help me out here and let me know your opinion.  Please if you want your opinion to be included in my “statistics” just add a message here or on the media site that you usually see my blog.

My question is:

How often would you like me to blog???

I posted daily at first but then read that people get bored of seeing daily blogs from someone and drop them, so I slowed down and posted probably 4 or 5 a week.  Then, lo and behold, I read that even that may be too much, so I have cut it down even more.  Obviously if I don’t post a blog regularly then you will forget about me but I also don’t want to lose your interest by blogging too much.  I want to get it just right for the majority of my readers, hence the survey.

-~-o~~0~~o-~-

I know this relies on you to actually do something positive here and comment, although most of my readers don’t usually comment much, so please on this occasion just add a couple of words – daily, 3 times a week, twice a week, once a week etc. or even “don’t mind” – LOL, I will take that as a positive rather than a negative as you probably wouldn’t even be reading this if you didn’t follow my blogs to at least some extent.

-~-o~~0~~o-~-

How ready are you for Christmas – I can’t say I have even thought too much about it yet.  Although I suppose I should be warning people that International orders should be in very soon for my jewellery otherwise the only way to get them in time is for them to pay for the faster postage.  I suppose a lot of people will be putting their Christmas lights up soon so it isn’t far away now.

-~-o~~0~~o-~-

Today’s trivia (even though this wasn’t my normal type of blog):

PEARLS MELT IN VINEGAR!
So be careful if you are eating fish and chips while wearing your pearl necklaceJ

And today’s chuckle:

And lastly:

BATHROOMS
A man has five items in his bathroom: a toothbrush, shaving cream, razor, a bar of soap, and a towel from the Holiday Inn.

The average number of items in the typical woman's bathroom is 337. A man would not be able to identify most of these items.

ARGUMENTS
A woman has the last word in any argument.

Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument.

FUTURE
A woman worries about the future until she gets a husband.

A man never worries about the future until he gets a wife.

SUCCESS
A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend.

A successful woman is one who can find such a man.

The Hazards of Escalators

I have been reading about how bad and dangerous escalators are and the shocking number of people who are injured by them each year.  Flip-flops seem to be the most "eaten" things by escalators but people have lost toes, fingers, had their hair ripped out etc.  Apparently it isn't only the teeth at the top and the bottom of the escalator that are a problem but the sides of them as well, especially if a child hangs on to the side of them.  It seems horrendous injuries are reported frequently and yet we are still not being careful when we are on them and we don't stop children from “mucking about” while on them.  Bending down to release something already caught is another big mistake as inevitably something of you gets caught and goes round the teeth sucking you in.  At least one person has died from being strangled when their clothing got caught.

They were invented towards the end of the last century but they have not really changed in design much since then.  You would think that with all the new technology now they would be able to redesign them so that these dangerous things cannot happen.  In these current times we are so safety conscious and so many precautions are taken in so many things but we are still at risk every time we step on to an escalator.  Most of the injuries that have occurred have not been when people have fallen or tripped but just through bad timing in getting on or off the escalator or wearing inappropriate footwear.  Do we go out thinking “are we likely to need to go on an escalator today as if I am I will need to change my shoes” – I think it unlikely.  We tell children off for jumping off the escalator at the bottom / top but maybe they have got the most sensible idea.  One escalator actually blew up in the London Underground when too much fluff and small debris had collected in the inner workings and over thirty people died.  But this particular situation is a lot less likely to happen than for a person to get injured by the teeth of the escalator.

It just goes to show that stairs are better for you in more ways than just for the exercise.

Todays trivia snippet:

You burn more calories sleeping than you do watching television.

Lastly, here is todays chuckle:

WIFE VS. HUSBAND
A couple drove down a country road for several miles, not saying a word.
An earlier discussion had led to an argument and neither of them wanted to concede their position.
As they passed a barnyard of mules, goats, and pigs, the husband asked sarcastically, 'Relatives of yours?'
'Yep,' the wife replied, 'in-laws.'

This Takes Me Back…

I noticed that they have brought back what they are calling Velvet Shoes.

I can remember these only too well from years ago as they were a pain in the a**e.  If you deigned to touch one foot against the other or knocked them on a chair leg, or even looked at them it seemed, you ended up with either a scuff mark or a black line on them.  There was absolutely no way on earth you could then eradicate the mark that always stood out like “a sore thumb”.  So unless you were REALLY careful you ended up with a tatty pair of shoes after about two wears.  I can remember trying everything to try and get rid of the marks but nothing ever worked.  I just hope the new ones will be made of an improved material since I had mine.

Most things seem to be made of better material these days though, apart from the ones that have just TOO much elastane in them and then they just feel like wearing a swimming costume (well the old fashioned swimming costumes now).  It would feel strange now to wear a pair of jeans that hadn’t got a bit of lycra in them so some things have definitely improved as the rigid jeans are so, well - rigid, when you sit down in them for any length of time.  Why is it always that when you buy something (especially jeans) that fit perfectly they shrink a bit in the wash so are too tight or short and yet if they are a bit too loose or long when you get them they never shrink one millimetre when you wash them?

Another thing that I am pleased they have improved upon is cotton t-shirts.  Years ago they ALWAYS went baggy at the back and got shorter so it is great that they don’t do that any more with the newer materials.  I always find though that the best looking t-shirts have elastane in them which I find really annoying, as if it is warm t-shirt weather who on earth wants to wear something with elastane in it to make them hotter?  It is a strict no-no when I go dancing especially.  I find all the newer jogging/yoga type trousers have elastane in them as well – I know it makes them clingier so the slimmer ones look better in them but by the nature of the material it makes you sweat more and isn’t the idea to wear them for comfort and ease while you are exercising which in itself makes you hot and sweaty, so why make it worse by wearing clothes with a high elastane content in them.  I am sure they can make them look just as good with just a very very small percentage of elastane in them to keep their shape.

Here are the last of those interesting Ways to Terrorize a Telemarketer

1. Tell the telemarketer you are busy at the moment and ask them if they will give you their HOME phone number so you can call them back. When the telemarketer explains that they cannot give out their HOME number, you say "I guess you don't want anyone bothering you at home, right?" The telemarketer will agree and you say, "Now you know how I feel!"

2. Insist that the caller is really your buddy Leon, playing a joke. "Come on Leon, cut it out! Seriously, Leon, how's your momma?"

3. Tell them to talk VERY SLOWLY, because you want to write EVERY WORD down.

4. Tell the telemarketer you are on "home arrest" and ask if they could bring you a case of beer and some chips.

5. After the telemarketer gives their spiel, ask him/her to marry you. When they get all flustered, tell them that you could not just give your credit card number to a complete stranger.

And lastly here is todays chuckle:

The Silent Treatment
A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment.
Suddenly, the man realized that the next day, he would need his wife to wake him at 5:00 AM for an early morning business flight.
Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece of paper, 'Please wake me at 5:00 AM .' He left it where he knew she would find it.
The next morning, the man woke up, only to discover it was 9:00 AM and he had missed his flight Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn't wakened him, when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed.
The paper said, 'It is 5:00 AM . Wake up..'
